Battle Amour

Lord Staniforth

Por la joie et la tristesse,
Must it be so entwined?
If the lure were no matter,
Would I be so inclined...

To rhyme?

To pursue the heart through damsel-land mines
With a zeal far greater than war?
The trenches are veins,
Clotted with men not fit for the charge,
Clinging to cowardly reason
"I've been scolded before!"

"BETTER TO HAVE LOVED!"

Is my charging cry.
I'd vault into the Valley of Entanglement
As a one-man light-brigade:

For the joy and the sorrow,
I would be so inclined,
Charge with heart over wallow,
Disregarding cost and time.

Smashing boredom, slaying trashy
In the name of Keats and truth,
Through this bastard modern era
Where verse and beauty are obtuse.

"Carpe diem, you dull fuckers
To you mundane, dug-in ways!
If those spinster mines don't toast me
Then my blare will never fade!"
